Recommended Cable Chains for 1998 Toyota 4Runner with 255/80R17 Size Tires
Question:
Hi, I run 255/80R17 Cooper tires on my SUV. The Titan Chain catalog pdf shows that I should buy the TC2039 cables. Your TC2039 product page does not show my 255 tires in the fitment section. Is the TC2039 the correct ones? thanks

I spoke with my contact at Titan and he stated that the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC2039 will actually not work well with the 225/80R17 size tires on your Toyota 4Runner. He said this cable set is too large for a tight fit on this tire size.
For cable chains that will provide a better fit, he recommends going with the Titan # TC2028. These are the same ladder pattern type cable chains that you were looking at that will do a nice job of giving your vehicle better traction in the snow. I highly recommend adding adjusters like the Titan Chain Multi-Arm # TCMA2 to maintain tension and a tight fit.
I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these products that you can also check out.
I lastly recommend taking a look at your copy of the vehicle's owners manual for any guidelines or restrictions related to using tire chains.
