Depending on what options your 2003 Ford Explorer has, there are different ways in which to install the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510. If the Explorer came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, you will just need the brake controller and wiring harness # 3035-P. One end of the harness plugs into the brake controller, the other end connects to a factory plug located behind the vehicle glove box on the Passenger side. There will be a 6-pin connector that mates with the one on the adapter at the end of the harness.

If the vehicle came with a 4-Way flat trailer connector, you will need the brake controller without the wiring harness, and adapter # 37185. Follow the instruction for part # ETBC7 which I have linked for you to view.

Finally, if the Explorer did not come with a wiring harness, you will need the brake controller, trailer wiring harness # 118344, and 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7.
