Available Hitch-Mount Carrier for Electric Fat Bike

Question:

Would a light weight motorcycle carrier work for an electric fat tire bicycle? I only need it to carry one electric bicycle.

A lightweight hitch-mounted motorcycle carrier like etrailer # e98873 will have a much higher weight capacity than a typical bicycle rack, higher even than one made for the heavier e-bikes and fat bikes. However, the tracks are only 5" wide.

Instead, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR, for instance, has an 80-lbs-per-bike weight rating and it works fine with fat bikes having tires up to 5-inches wide.

The potential issue with using a motorcycle carrier for a fat bike is that there is not center mast or support to secure the bike. The SE uses a sliding hook to grip the bike frame and wheel cradles to support it while you travel. It also includes locks, both for the bikes and for the rack itself.

A typical motorcycle carrier will not have these features and would require you to determine a safe method of securing the bike to the carrier. We do offer all sorts of cargo tie-down products (shown on the linked page) such as # EM34420 but I cannot really say that any of these items will keep a heavy e-bike as secure as the mountings included on a rack like the SE. This will most definitely be a safer way to transport your e-bike.

Tires on the scooter I want have 9.5 width tires. Do you have a hitch carrier for it?

The MaxxTow Carrier # MT70101 mentioned above is the widest available scooter/motorcycle rack we have with its 7" width. The best option we have for your scooter with 9-1/2" wide tires is with a standard cargo carrier like the etrailer # e98872.

@ChrisR The etrailer is wider then 7” width for fat tire electric scooter?

@Ronnie The carrier that Chris mentioned is a cargo carrier that has one big tray and isn't like a regular motorcycle carrier. Since it's a platform it means the tire width doesn't matter as much because the tires don't need to sit in a specific place.
