When installing the excellent Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System # BLU37TR on your 2017 Chevy Sonic, you will also need to add the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332. This will attach directly to the battery in your vehicle and provides an accessory outlet to power the braking system. You will not need to turn off the battery saver on the vehicle.

I took a look at the owner's manual for your Chevy Sonic for the specific steps needed before flat towing. It states that you should shift the automatic transmission to P (Park) or a manual transmission into first gear, then turn the ignition to Lock/OFF. Then set the parking brake. To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, you will also want to remove the DLIS fuse from the instrument panel fuse block. Then turn the ignition to ACC/ACCESSORY, shift the transmission to Neutral and release the parking brake.

I also recommend checking your copy of the owner's manual for any alternate guidelines or restrictions.
