Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer Weighing 9,000 lb

Question:

We are looking for a Weight distribution system with sway control. We are going to use this on a enclosed trailer that weights 9000 lbs when loaded, it will be pulled with a 2500 GMC truck, the current hitch we are using is a 5 1/4inch hitch, what distribution system would you recommend.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Your tongue weight would most likely be between 900 and 1,350 lbs so the Strait Line System part # RP66130 would be your best option as it has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,500 lbs. This system also features the only sway control on the market designed to stop sway before it starts. Then for a drop shank the # EQ90-02-4300 would work great as it can do up to a 6 inch drop.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
