Troubleshooting Green Light on Tekonsha Voyager that Stays On without Trailer Connected
Question:
I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD with a Tekonsha Brake Controller - 39510 instaled it has been working fine for years, however this week I noticed something different. The green indicator light has been staying lit at all times, until the brake pedal is pressed, it then goes red for a split second and then no light. This is all without a trailer attached. I also noticed since its been doing that, the reverse lights on my truck come on when Im braking. Has this been experienced in the past? Looking for some advice before I dig into it

The green light on your Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 indicates that a trailer is connected. If the light remains on when there is no trailer connected, this means that for some reason the controller is sensing a load on blue brake output wire. This, along with the reverse light/brake light issue you are experiencing, leads me to think that there may be corrosion built up inside the trailer connector. Corrosion behind the pins can lead to a short, which is what may be causing the controller to sense a connection that isn't there. It can also lead to circuits being bridged together on the connector, which is why the reverse lights might be turning on when you are applying the brakes.
I recommend inspecting both the vehicle and trailer side connectors for corrosion and debris, cleaning out as needed. This should hopefully resolve both issues you are having.
If this does not fix the problem, please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
