How to Use a Circuit Tester to Install Trailer Wiring on a 2004 Ford Escape

Question:

2004 ford escape....I have viewed the videos. They say to use the tester to determine what wires are what. I cannot find a video/instruction about how to use the tester. I see them ing into a connector. what does teh other end hook to? I do not understand how the testing works. Please explain/direct me to some existing instructions. Thanks in advance

When using a circuit tester like the Draw-Tite Circuit Tester, part # PTW2993, you will attach the clamp of the tester to a good ground connection. The other end of the tester will have a sharp point that is used to pierce the wire that you are testing for current. If you would just pierce the wire and not have the clamp grounded it will not give an indication of current because the ground has to be used to complete the wiring circuit.
