Periodic Maintenance for Landing Gear Like # LG-179013 Without Grease Zerk
Question:
Greetings My old landing legs had two grease fittings on each leg, the LG-179013 and LG-179014 legs do not have any fittings. What is the recommended maintenance for the legs? I see that I can remove the cap at the top of the legs and add grease to the gears, but is there any other recommended maintenance? Thanks for your time

Lippert landing gear legs need to be greased periodically depending on use. Unfortunately, to do this, you often have to dismantle the legs because there is a drive screw that raises and lowers the leg. Sometimes you can simply extend the landing legs as far as possible and coat the exposed surfaces with spray lubricant or grease like # L11390. It is important to keep that drive screw functioning or the legs won't work properly. That screw can seize up slowly if it gets dry and cause a horrible noise, eventually bending or braking the screw or nut if it doesn't completely freeze up and immobilize itself. Some landing gear have a removable access from the top to help with lubrication, like the Lippert # LG-179013 and # LG-179014 you mentioned.
