Weight Distribution Solution for V-Nose Trailer

Question:

I have a aluminium Featherlite V nose trailer so there is no open frame rails. How do I use an equalizing hitch. It appears they all make the assumption you can access frame rails.

There is a way for you to use a weight distribution system with a V-nose trailer, it will require chain hangers # RP58305 which can be bolted or welded on to the side of your Featherlite. As for the system itself, I strongly recommend the Reese Strait-Line, such as # RP66084, though you will need to find the correctly rated system.

In order to choose the best weight distribution system, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight, you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight.
