Troubleshooting T-1 Connector Part # 118552 on 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

I have checked the following with a circuit tester. Headlights on - I have a signal on the brown wire. Headlights on and right blinker on - I have a signal on the yellow wire. Headlights on and left blinker on - I have a signal on the yellow wire as well. I have no signal on the green wire in any situation. Fuses are okay and I get a strong signal when I checked the ground and the wire coming from the battery. Any help would be appreciated. I have only had the harness installed since August 2010.

Having the signal bleed over from the drivers side to the circuit feeding the passenger side usually indicates a ground problem. Try running a jumper from the white ground wire coming off the converter to the negative battery terminal, and see if that solves your problem. If so, try using a different grounding point for the converter. If there is a factory installed grounding point nearby, that would be ideal. If no factory ground is available, try shooting the grounding screw into a pinch weld, where the metal is thicker. How do the lights function when the headlights are NOT on? When the headlights are on, the converter is drawing maximum amperage. If there is a ground problem, this is when it will show itself.

A faulty or damaged converter is also a possibility. This can be determined by activating the left turn signal and testing the green wire on the INPUT side of the converter. If you are getting a signal coming into the converter, but not exiting on the output side leading to the trailer connector, the converter has shorted out and should be replaced.

If the converter needs to be replaced, you will want to determine the cause so the new converter does not short out as well. Check your trailer connector on the trailer, make sure it is not damaged or corroded. Trace each circuit (especially the green wire for the left turn) looking for broken wires, or cracked, worn or damaged insulation that would allow the copper conductor to short out on the trailer frame.
