Using the Hatch on a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite With a Thule Motion Rooftop Cargo Box

Question:

Will Thule Motion XL 22 cu. ft. Box allow the hatch to open on a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite with the factory cross bars? I was originally interested in the Yakama Sky Box 21 cu. ft. model that I know from your video does work. I like some of the features of the Thule a little better and I want to know if this is an option for me. Thank you.

Based on just raw numbers, the Thule Motion, part # TH629906, should fit your Honda Pilot if the Yakima SkyBox 21, part # Y07336, fit the vehicle.

You can verify the fit by positioning your crossbars as far forward as they will go if they are adjustible, then measuring from the center of the front crossbar to the line where your hatch meets your roof. This is your front clearance, and you'll need to pick boxes that have a minimum clearance of less than this number.

The Thule Motion requires 55 inches, while the Yakima SkyBox 21 requires 57 inches.
