How to Fight Against Trailer Hitch Rusting
Question:
I have noticed that the exterior of the trailer hitches tend to rust. Is there anything I can do to prevent the rusting?

Trailer hitch wear and tear is a normal thing and comes from salt that is used on the road or from different objects flying up under your car and hitting the trailer hitch. Although keeping a used trailer hitch in mint condition is impossible, there are a few steps you can take to prolong the life of your trailer hitch and fight the rust that you were talking about.
To help prevent the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13206 from rusting once it is installed on your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon you will want to rinse off any salt that would get on it if you drive in an area where salt would be used on the roads during winter months.
You will also want to find some anti-corrosive paint that you can apply to any places where you may have a scratch like from rocks. If you cannot find anti-corrosive paint, then applying some spray paint will help resist rust and be better than nothing.
I have attached an installation video of this trailer hitch on a 2017 Outback Wagon for you to reference. If you let me know what you plan on using the trailer hitch for I can make some recommendations for you.
