Gooseneck Clearance Equation and Offset Ball Options for 2017 Ford F-350 Short Bed

Question:

Hi, Im wondering if I need an offset ball for my F350 and gooseneck trailer. I have a 2017 F350 Short Bed pickup. I want to tow a gooseneck trailer with it and Im wondering if I will need a gooseneck offset ball to tow the trailer. Are there measurements I need to take to see if I can do this without crunching my cab? Thank you!

For your 2017 F-350 short bed, the clearance calculation is the measurement from the cab to ball center minus 1/2 the trailer width. This will give you the minimum clearance. If that number is positive the trailer will not interfere with the cab of the truck, but if it is negative then it will interfere and you need to be extremely cautious.

We do have offset hitch balls that are hitch specific to gain more clearance and we also have the B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler - 2-5/16" Ball - 10" Offset - 24,000 lbs # BWTEXA4200.

For a 4 inch offset we have the Curt Double-Lock # C602 or the B&W Turnoverball # BWGNXA4685 or # BWGNXA4085.

For a 5 inch offset we have the Draw-Tite Hide-A-Goose # 19308.
