Carrying Two Kayaks Front Loaded on a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado Towing a Fifth Wheel

Question:

Can you recommend the correct parts to create a Yakima half rack tower system for a 2013 Silverado HD extended cab with 2 kayaks. Doesnt appear I can purchase the entire system? I plan to pair it with the Darby 944 front of truck goalpost type bar system unfortunately their rooftop crossbar strap system that goes through the cab would hit me in the head. Will have fifth wheel on back of truck. Darby foam blocks on roof looked like a good option, but I dont see a good way to cinch down to roof near front doors. Help.

You can get a half set for your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD fairly easily, it will consist of:

2500 Feet 1/2 Kit, part # RRRLKVAH
Custom Fit Kit, part # DK227H
Vortex aero crossbar, part # RRVA137B

Make sure that you're mounting following the front bar numbers in the fit kit's instructions for the best fit.

For the Darby Extend-A-Truck, part # DTA944-968-924, you can add a couple things to make your life a little easier.

The Malone Quick-Lash loops, part # MPG308 give you a separate front-of-vehicle mounting point for your kayaks' bow tie downs. This adds nylon loops to the hood of your truck and lets you hook the bow ties into these, rather than under the hood to protect your vehicle's finish.

The Darby Extend-A-Truck doesn't come with any tie downs, so I recommend adding two Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops - 13' - Qty 2 # TH855XT to add quick carabiner and pulley bow and stern ties to further secure your front-loaded kayaks. These let you quickly and easily tighten the bow and stern ties, making the entire process easier.

Finally, Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps, part # TH832 will add locking straps to secure your kayaks to the vehicle or roof rack, giving you added peace of mind when leaving the rig during stops.
