Recommendation for Removing Demco 18K Hijacker Auto Slide from Truck Bed
Question:
I have the Demco 18K hijacker auto slide and as you know it weighs approx. 300lbs. More than I can lift. I want to be able to lift it out of PU bed when not towing for a couple months or so and Im having trouble finding a crane that the arm will extend enough to go 63 inches from the edge of tailgate folded down to where the jaws are. Question: Will the MoR ryde kingpin and pin box support the hitch hanging from it temporarily while I drive out from under it and put a couple of sawhorses under the hitch to support it? The MaxxTow crane will not reach in far to lift it up. I have one and it does not work.

I reached out to my contact at Demco, and they said the 18K Hijacker autoslide # DM8550034 weighs enough that the slider portion could engage in that operation. They do not recommend putting that weight on the hitch and kingpin/pin box. Your best option is to manually move your hitch to the rear of your truck. The safest way would be with two people, or you could use a crane. The Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket # DM6100 will assist with that.
I recommend you get a friend or two to help you move the hitch close enough to the tailgate to utilize your crane.
