Transmission Cooler for 2002 Toyota Sequoia Towing a 4900lb Travel Trailer

Question:

I recently bought a 29ft travel trailer and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to get a transmission cooler. My truck is rated at 6500LBS. and the dry weight of the trailer is 4900LBS. What should I do?

A transmission cooler is very inexpensive insurance for your transmission, so I would highly recommend the Derale 8000 Series Transmission Cooler you referenced, part # D13503.

Although your dry weight is 1600lbs less than the vehicle towing capacity, once you add gear and fill water or propane tanks, you will be climbing closer to that 6500lb figure.

The cooler measures 11 inches x 8 inches, and is 7/8 of an inch thick. You will want to take a look in front of your radiator directly behind the grille (the ideal placement) to ensure you have enough room to install the cooler.

We have a video showing a transmission cooler installation. Although the install is being preformed on a different vehicle, the video should still be helpful in giving you a brief run-down of the installation procedure. To see the video, click on the provided link.
