Shutting Off Power on 12 Volt Hot Lead so Trailer Does Not Drain Battery on 2012 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have a 2012 chevy silverado with a camper. Can I use this part to isolate my camper battery from the truck while camping? My goal is to not have to unplug the camper when stopped overnight. Thanks

You will actually need a battery isolation solenoid, # PK5231201. A diode won't be able to do what you want it to do. The solenoid can be installed on the 12 volt power wire going to the trailer connector on your 2012 Chevy Silverado. What happens is when the truck is turned off it will shut off power to that circuit. I have included a picture pointing out what each of the studs is for on the isolator. The 12 volt ignition source is something that only has power when the truck is turned on. The radio is a good candidate for that.
