Explanation of Why Class II Hitch Cargo Carrier Wont Fit Class I Hitch
Question:
I purchased a hitch mount and cargo basket for my 07 mazda 5. The male end, which attaches to the cargo basket does not slide the way into the female pirtion, which Im calling the hitch receiver. There is a small nub on the inside of the hitch receiver. Im guessing it os intended to stop the male pirtion from going in too far, for some reason. Regardless, it stops it short such that the pin cannot slide through. See photo to make sense of the above nonsense. What can we do about this problem?

The nub you mentioned is actually there intentionally to prevent what you are trying to do as annoying as that sounds. You see there are Class I and Class II hitches that are 1-1/4 inch sized like what you have. The difference is Class II has higher capacities than the very low capacity Class I hitch.
So to prevent Class II only accessories from being used in a Class I hitch they put that nub in the hitch and then only Class I hitch accessories have a cut out portion in the shank which allows them to slide past it and get pinned to the hitch.
The Pro Series cargo carrier part # PS1040300 is a Class II only accessory which is why it won't fit. The most similar Class I hitch cargo carrier we offer is the part # C18110 then which will slide far enough in to install.
