Complete Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller Recommendations for a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
Question:
Im trying to figure out if PN 118509 will work on my touareg, if I will also need to install a brake assist. Im pulling a small camper, and although not absolutely necessary, the brake assist is definitely nice to have.

Yes, this Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118509, is the correct trailer wiring harness for your 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out.
Having a brake controller when pulling a trailer is never a bad idea. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, as it is our best seller because of how easy it is to use and how well it works. Instructions are attached.
Next thing you will need to do is wire the # 90885 to your VW. For that you will need a Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This will convert the 4-way from the # 118509 to a 7-way and allow the brake controller to communicate with the brakes of your small camper trailer. I attached installation instructions and an installation video for this product as well.
