How to Determine Factory Trailer Hitch Class on a 1999 Ford Expedition

The 1999 Ford Expedition most likely has a class III rated towing package from the factory. In order to determine which class you have, you can check the trailer hitch for capacity information. There is usually a sticker on the hitch that will list trailer weight and tongue weight capacities.
If it reads 3500 pounds or more and the hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening, you have a class III trailer hitch. You also may be able to find the information in the owners manual for the vehicle or you can have the dealer run the VIN number to determine what options are on the vehicle.
