Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ford F-250 with 6-3/4 Foot Bed

Question:

We are looking to upgrade to a fifth wheel, we have found two we like, trailer weight is 11,579 and 11,802 dry weight, between 36 and 38 feet long. We are looking at a 2018 F250 with a V8 gas engine super crew , short bed with a 4.30 axle ratio that has a 15,000 lbs towing capaciy. Would this do the job? Most of our trips right now will be weekend trips. We live in the south near the east coast.

Expert Reply:

Yes, the 2018 Ford F250 will work fine for the 5th wheel you mentioned. I recommend going with the factory rail kit to give you a clean bed when you are not towing. I also recommend the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Ford Super Duty Prep Package - 18K # DM8550024 which will automatically slide to give you turning clearance for your short bed truck. This particular hitch it designed specifically for your truck.

If you prefer a manual slider option, I'd be happy to give you a recommendation.

I also recommend getting the Demco 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug - 10' Long # DM8555002 to add a second 7-way trailer connection to the bed of your truck for easy connection access for your 5th wheel trailer.
