Comparing the Master Lock Trailer Winch # 2953AT with Superwinch # 1220210
Question:
Please explain the difference between Rack and Pinion vs. Dynamic as they relate to the Electric Boat Winches. Both are similarly priced. Is one significantly better or different other than the more attractive encased one that may offer better whether protection? Thanks.

The rack and pinion for the Master Lock Electric Trailer Winch, # 2953AT, is in reference to the way that the winch brakes. It is a mechanical system that can support a load when stopped and the clutch is not engaged (which would allow the line to be pulled out).
A dynamic brake uses the motor to apply tension to the drum and it cannot hold a load. If it were me, I would go with Superwinch # 1120210, for the fact that it has the ability to power the load in and out. The Master Lock winch can only power the load in. I have included a link to the installation details for the Superwinch and a link to our electric winch FAQ article.
