Recommended Flat Towing System for 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel with Custom Fab Fours Premium Front Bumper
Question:
Im picking up a 2017 GMC Canyon Diesel Long Box next week and need to get some items to flat tow it but Im not sure what I need. The truck will have the Fabfours premium bumper so Im not sure what base plate and other parts are needed. Can someone send me a parts list of everything needed to flat tow behind a 29foot - 2008 Safari Damara. Thank you.

Fab Fours aftermarket bumpers are not rated to flat towed with so you need to find a base late kit that fits with the bumper. The problem is that aftermarket bumpers and base plates often install in the same location and interfere with one another. I've linked our selection of base plates for you to take a look at. I recommend comparing them to the bumper and seeing if any will fit. If they'll all work I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Kit # RM-523182-5. Our installers generally prefer Roadmaster kits because of the installation.
Then I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-522 along with the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643.
For your tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will give you a clean connection at the front of your truck with a 6-way connector. It will utilize diodes in order to use your factory wiring while protecting it. This will give a very clean look that is extremely functional. You will also want the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766 to allow you to disconnect the battery with a flip of a switch.
For your supplemental braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251 as long as your Sarafi Damara has hydraulic brakes. This is a proportional braking system that will work very well with your 2008 Safari Damara. This system is an easy installation that becomes a plug and play system that is extremely reliable and easy to use. If the motorhome has air brakes instead you want the Air Force One # SM99243. Using a system designed for air brakes prevents false braking on your truck.
With either one you will need to use the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751472 because your battery will be disconnected on the Canyon.
The final component you need is a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to assist and have also linked the page to your options for your convenience.
