Low Profile Roof Rack System for a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

I have a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory roof rails. Id like a roof rack that doesnt sit too high off the roof. Do you have any info on how high or really, how low off the roof different rack systems sit? Thanks.

For the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a big part of fitting a roof rack is if you have the E-Group Package or not.

The E-Group Package is designated by chrome detailing on the roof rails. If you do have the E-Group package, then your best pick will be an edge kit for the lowest possible profile.

For a high-quality rack, I recommend the Thule Aeroblade Edge kit consisting of:

AeroBlade Edge Roof Rack, Silver, part # TH7602-TH7602 or Black, part # TH7602B-TH7602B
AeroBlade Edge Fit Kit for Fixed or Rails, part # THKIT3142

The Aeroblade Edge fit kit will add about 2.5 inches to the top of your factory rails.

This Thule kit can be keyed alike with other Thule products by using the One-Key System. Most Thule accessories include a sheet about which part to buy, but if you need help keying-alike your gear, let me know what you have and I can make a specific recommendation of a key-kit.

If you're looking for a more economical option (Or don't like the wing-style shape of the Thule kit) Rhino Rack produces an all-in-one kit as part # RRRVP27. This will mount to your existing rail kit and provide a more elliptical looking crossbar to your vehicle.

The Rhino Rack kit will add approximately 3.5 inches to the top of your roof rails.

If you don't have the E-Group package, then you have only traditional, high-profile roof racks available.

I've included an installation and review video for both of these rack systems so you can get an idea of how they work and install on the vehicle.
