To install a trailer brake controller on your 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, you will just need a few items.
Starting with the brake controller itself, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is an excellent proportional controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Santa Fe. It features an easy to read digital display and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This unit is well known for its reliability and ease of installation.
Then for wiring, if you do not already have a trailer connector installed at the rear of the vehicle, you will first need to install a 4-Way harness with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118415. This wiring harness is custom-fit for your vehicle and will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports located behind the trim panels in the cargo area. I have attached an installation video on your 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe that you can use for reference.
With the 4-Way installed, you will then need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you need to install a fully functional 7-Way and brake controller from the existing 4-Way. I have attached an article that details the installation steps for this particular kit that you might find helpful.
I have included the written installation details for the products mentioned that you can also check out.
