Curt Class II Trailer Hitch # C12108 Compatibility with Bike Rack on 2016 Toyota RAV4

Question:

Does Curt Class II C12108 Trailer Hitch Require a Stabilizing Strap For use of a Bike Rack on a 2016 Toyota RAV4 XLE? I currently own the Curt Class II C12108 Trailer Hitch and wanted to use it to carry a bike carrier. It was mentioned in QandA that the 2015 Toyota RAV4 Curt 1 1/4inch hitch C12108 requires a stabilizer strap like the # 18050 when transporting 2 or more bikes. https://www.etrailer.com/question-152707.html And that the strap would attach to the top of the rear hatch, But also that the spoiler on the rear hatch would make the strap unsuitable for the 2015 vehicle, since the strap could damage the spoiler. So instead, you recommend the EcoHitch Class III hitch, part # 306-X7219. Is this still the case for the 2016 Toyota RAV4 XLE like the 2015 model? Would like to make the # C12108 Trailer Hitch work since I already own it. Also can the M12-1.25 x 35mm hex bolts from the C12108 Trailer Hitch be used with the 306-X7219 Trailer Hitch even though the 306-X7219 Trailer Hitch states to uses a different size hex bolts, but the sizes are close? For your Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12108 for a 2016 Toyota RAV4 XLE, the stabilization strap # 18050 is recommended for any non-trailer load according to the installation instructions. Since it is not required as other hitches often state and could cause damage to your spoiler, you will need to determine if you use it or not. I would recommend using the EcoHitch trailer hitch # 306-X7219 which does not require a stabilization strap, but since you own the Curt hitch that would be a substantial cost.

I do not recommend using the hardware intended for the # C12108 trailer hitch receiver for the # 306-X7219. The EcoHitch hitch will need to use the hardware that is included with that hitch because that is what it has been tested and rated using.

If you don't already have a bike rack, I recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount - Tilting - Gray # KU74FR. I've attached videos to assist with this bike rack.
