Measuring Ball Mount for Deep Drop Needed to Tow Trailer Level
Question:
When I check for a 12 inch I measured from where the center of my receiver mount to my Reese hitch to the ball mount on the receiver a so-called 12-inch is really only a 10 and a half inch very irritating

The frustration is in where you are measuring. The measurement is from the top of the shank othe the bottom of the ball platform. This is what will get you the correct ball height because the coupler will sit over the hitch ball. So if you are measuring your trailer coupler when level, then you measure from the bottom of the coupler to the ground and then from the ground to the inside top of your receiver opening on your trailer hitch to get the proper drop. This is how all manufacturers measure the drop. I've attached an article to assist.
If you don't want to worry about the measurements and just want to get a working ball mount, I recommend the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2" Hitch - 15" Drop - 10K # 325-GH-317 or 17-1/2" Drop # 325-GH-328.
