Replacement Hub and Bearings for 1989 Tracker Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello. I recently decided to check the hubs on my 1989 Tracker boat trailer. I saw the CE Smith replacement hub assembly and was thinking about purchasing them. I saw the answer to a similar question and took apart the existing assembly to try and determine the correct size to purchase. My spindle does not look like any of the ones on your site. It also does not seem to have a cotter pin that seems standard with all referenced assemblies. My spindle appears to be a non-tapered one, BUT has a flat side on the threaded end that seems to hold a specific type of washer, it appears that a piece of this washer has been torn off see attached photos. The diameter of the washer is 1 and the diameter of the outer bearing is 1-1/16th. I could not find any stamped serial or part numbers on the bearing. I dont believe I was having any issues with the hub or the bearings, but by the looks of that torn washer, it certainly looks like I may have had problems in the near future. I recently purchased your Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13 Galvanized Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR C on 8/15/17. Im hoping you can please provide me with the correct hub assembly for my trailer. Thank you.

Based on the pictures you attached and the outer bearing measurement you provided, it appears that you have 1-1/16 inch spindle like the BTR EZ Lube Spindle # TRU44FR. This particular spindle is designed for 2,000 pound axles and will use the same inner and outer bearing. I have attached the spindle's dimensions so you can compare them to what you have in order to verify the replacement bearing sizes. I recommend using a digital caliper like # PTW80157, as the measurements will need to be exact.

The correct bearing kit for this size spindle is the TruRyde Bearing Kit # BK1-150. This kit includes the # L44649 inner and outer bearing, the 10-60 grease seal (with an inner diameter of 1.500 inches), cotter pin and spindle washer. For the complete hub assembly, you can use the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-259-5UC1. This idler hub features a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and will include the bearings, races, seal, grease cap, wheel bolts and lug nuts. I have included an article that explains how to measure your bolt pattern to ensure a proper fit.

I have attached a couple of articles on trailer bearings and seals that you might also find helpful.

Looks like L44549. L44649 may be 6 instead of 5

Yes - that 5 is most definitely a 6 on the number. Was this number on both the inner and outer bearings? If so, the etrailer # AKIHUB-545-2-2K (idler) or # AKHD-545-2-2K (hub/drum - if you have brakes) will work perfectly.

Your hubs and existing wheels have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, but unfortunately this isn't enough for me to confidently recommend the correct replacement hub assemblies. Are you able to pull one of the existing hubs and look for the inner and outer bearing numbers, which should be stamped inside the bearings themselves?

Im going to by your hubs for my 92 tracker do you sell the washer with flat side with tabs on it separatly because I dont see it with hub kit

I believe you're referring to the spindle washer, which is indeed available by itself with part # 5-101. You're right that it isn't included with the Dexter Hub assembly # 8-259-5UC1.
