Trailer Hitch Recommendation and Need for Stabilization Strap for 2018 Subaru Outback
Question:
Im looking for a Class III trailer hitch for my 2018 Subaru 3.6 Outback mainly for bike rack or cargo rack. The Curt hitch, code C13206, description has Tech Tip statement that a support strap is required for for bike racks. The Draw-Tite hitch, item 75673, description does not mention this requirement. The rating on the two hitches look to be the same. Is there a difference between the two hitches or do both hitches need the support straps for bike racks and cargo racks? Thanks for your help.

Curt is the only manufacturer who requires stabilization strap # 18050 when using some of their hitches with bike racks or cargo carriers. For other brands it is up to you if you want to use it or not. It does reduce the stress on the hitch but the down side is the extra steps it takes to use the strap and that it has to attach to the vehicle.
If it were me I would use Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75673 on the 2018 Subaru Outback and not use the stabilization strap because the hitch is more than capable of supporting bikes or cargo without a strap. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation of the Draw-Tite hitch for you.
