Recommended 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2017 Ford F-350 with 8 Foot Bed and Factory Rail Kit
Question:
Dear eTrailer: I am looking for a top quality 5th wheel hitch for my 2017 F350 DRW 8ft BEd with Factory Prep Package to tow a RV that has a max GVRW 20k lbs. I really like the BandW Companion and have heard excellent things about it from users on forums, but I was also instructed to get a higher rated hitch than my trailer is rated for. In other words, look for a 24k - 26k lbs hitch. Question 1: Does BandW make a higher rated hitch than the 20k one? Question 2: What are some top rated hitch you can recommend for my application that will have the minimum amount of slop and pin noise, as well as perform the best and can be hitched and unhitched easily on uneven ground?

For your 2017 Ford F-350 with the factory rail kit and an 8 foot bed, the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3300 that you referenced is indeed an excellent product. As you mentioned, this is one of the best 5th-wheel hitches on the market and is also one of our most popular because of its reliability and easy-to-use latching handle design. However, this 20,000 pound capacity hitch is the highest rated B&W Hitch we have available that will mount to the factory pucks in your truck.
If you are wanting something with a higher capacity, I highly recommend the Reese M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30922. This 27,000 pound capacity hitch features a forged, single-piece jaw that will wrap completely around the trailer's king pin. This will ensure a very secure connection and greatly reduce that rattle and noise that you mentioned. It provides a 9 inch wide funnel (3 inches larger than a traditional funnel) that will provide a larger area for guiding the king pin into the hitch. This will make for easier hook up with your trailer. The 4-Way head pivot will also make for faster and easier hookup, even on unlevel ground.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this product so you can get a better look at its features.
