Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch with Gooseneck Hitch Ball Option for 2008 Dodge 2500 Short Bed

Question:

can this hitch underbed mounting work with gooseneck trailer hitch ball? I pull both fifth wheels and gooseneck trailers and have recently purchased a 2008 Dodge 2500 6.5ft short bed pickup. Presently it has what I believe is a BandW turn over gooseneck ball with under bed mounting.

The Demco # DM8550037 will not allow you to use a gooseneck hitch, but I do have a couple of options for your 2008 Dodge 2500 with short bed to use a 5th wheel and gooseneck hitch.

If you want a manual sliding hitch, I recommend the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3400-5W which is designed to work seamlessly with your current under bed gooseneck hitch. This is an extremely popular option for people who want to use a gooseneck and have a clean bed option. This is a very nice 5th wheel hitch, but it will require you to get out of your truck to manually adjust the slider for turning clearance.

If you want to use an autosliding hitch like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 21,000 lbs # DM8550035, then you will need to remove your under-bed gooseneck system and install the above bed rails like # RP50140-58. This will give you probably the best 5th wheel hitch for your vehicle and then you can use the Curt 25K Gooseneck Plate for Fifth Wheel Rails item # 16055 for a gooseneck ball.

Since you tow both 5th wheel and gooseneck trailers, you may already have wiring in the bed, but if not, I recommend the Bargman 5th wheel/gooseneck wiring harness # HM42137 to give you a second functioning 7-way with easier access in the bed of your truck.
