Question:
Do I need a sliding hitch when towing a 2014 Montana 3400 RL with taperd corners?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For 5th-wheel trailers like your 2014 Montana 3400RL that feature a tapered nose, a stationary hitch can be used on on a short bed truck and you will still be able to make tight turns. With this in mind, you do not need a sliding hitch on your 2014 Ford F-350 that has a 6-3/4 foot bed.
For a fixed hitch that will mount directly to the factory rail kit on your truck, I recommend looking at the Reese M5 Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30921. This hitch will provide an 20,000 pound towing capacity and features a forged, single-piece jaw that will ensure a secure connection to the trailer king pin. It is designed to be dropped right into the factory pucks in your truck bed and also includes a wiring harness to make hooking up with your trailer even easier.
Another really nice option is the Curt Q20 5th WHeel Trailer Hitch # C16530-16017. This hitch is again designed to mount directly to the factory pucks on your Ford F-350 and will give you a 20,000 pound towing capacity. It features a 4 inch height adjustment and a nice color-coded lock indicator for superb safety and security.
I have also attached a couple short video demonstrations on these products so you can get a better look at its features.
