What is Needed to Wire a 2007 Saturn Aura for Flat Towing Behind a Motor Home

Question:

Apparently this item didnt work. Tow vehicle is a Holiday Rambler motohome with standard 4-pin and 7-pin plugs. Towed vehicle is a 2007 Saturn Aura that has separate stop and turn lights. All I could get to function were the taillights. Left/right turn/stop functions were inop. Without being connected to tow vehicle, lights operated normally. Traced the signals all the way to the converter box but nothing works coming out of it except the tail light brown wire function. Triple checked all the wiring and signals. Cant get it to work.

What you need is to wire the 2007 Saturn Aura with diodes in order to get the lighting functions to work. There are 2 ways in which to wire a vehicle with separate stop and turn signals. The first way basically makes the towed vehicle into a combined tail light system while it is being towed. While not being towed it will function normally.

The other way, which includes 2 additional diodes, a converter, and some extra wiring, will allow the vehicle to remain as a separate system at all times.

For the first method, you will just need Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation for you to view.

For the second method, in addition to the kit listed above, you will also need 2 additional diodes, # RM-792, and a converter, # 118158, to wire the vehicle as a separate system. I have included a link to a video demonstration of the converter for you to view.

I have also included a link to our FAQ article on wiring a vehicle with a separate system in order to be flat towed. The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11141705, did not work because it is designed for the Saturn when it is towing something, but not when it is being towed. It sends signals out to a trailer but cannot receive signals coming into it.
