Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount to Equip 2003 Honda Odyssey and 2015 Toyota Prius for Towing

I need to purchase the trailer hitches, connectors and 2inch balls to tow a Yakima 66inch Rackandroll trailer behind two cars, a 2003 Honda Odyssey and a 2015 Toyota Prius. I understand from Yakima that I need 22inch in height for this trailer. Can you specify the sets that will work for these two vehicles?

We can help you get your two vehicles, the 2003 Honda Odyssey and the 2015 Toyota Prius, ready to tow your Yakima Rack-and-Roll trailer, whether it is the 66-inch model # Y08106 or the 78-inch model # Y08107. Let's start with hitches for the cars.

For your 2003 Honda Odyssey both 2-inch and 1-1/4-inch hitches are offered. To keep things simple and compatible with the Prius I suggest the 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch # C12031 which offers no-drill installation; it comes with all required hardware. For a 4-pole wiring harness kit for the trailer lights you can use # 118336 which offers plug-in installation.

For your Prius you can use 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch # 24847 and wiring harness # C56147.

You are correct that the height of the trailer coupler requires a hitch ball height of 22-inches in order to keep the trailer level when hitched. This is important for good handling.

Now for a ball mount. The two hitches will have installed heights that are only 2-inches different from one another; 13-inches above ground for the Odyssey and 11-inches above ground for the Prius. You can probably use the same ball mount for both cars without issue. The most height rise available in a Class I ball mount is 5-3/8-inches, part # C45028. This ball mount will work in both hitches. You can use hitch ball # C40018 and pin and clip kit # F-4.
