Brake Controller Reads 12V When Override is Used But Less When Brake Pedal is Pressed
Question:
My trail braking system will not work using the foot pedal, but seems to work just fine using the intergrated hand portion of the system. I show low voltage when the foot pedal is used. But it has about 12 with the hand portion. Do you think is the integrated system that is broken or something with the foot break?

When testing a proportional brake controller, like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, when you set it to the highest setting and use the manual override you will get the reading of about 12V at the pin in the 5 O'clock position (see attached picture). However, when you are just using the brake pedal to test the output of the power you will not get a 12V power reading because the controller has an integrated inertia sensor that helps to determine the braking needed for the trailer. If you are not moving, or if you are barely moving, then it will sense that the trailer brakes do not need much power.
As long as you are getting 12V of power when using the manual override and your brakes on your trailer seem to work just fine then there is nothing to worry about.
