On your old Tekonsha 2030 Mark 12 Brake controller, the functions are very similar to more recent models like the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90760. The slide is the manual override and the roller knob is the brake intensity adjuster so you have control of how much power is sent to your trailer brakes based on the size of your trailer and your desired function. The higher the intensity, the more direct braking power when you hit your brake pedal.
