To install an electric brake controller, like the Prodigy P3 # 90195, in your 2006 Toyota Tacoma you can use the wiring adapter # 3040-P if you have a factory 7-way trailer connector on the rear of the truck. I've linked a video of the P3 with the adapter on a 2008 Tundra for you to take a look at.
If your truck doesn't have a trailer connector you'll need to start by adding a 4-way. Use # 118496 which plugs in to the truck's wiring either behind both tail lights or near the frame rail. Once you install a 4-way, or if the truck already has one, use our # ETBC7 kit to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. This kit also includes all of the wiring to connect to the brake controller. I've included a link of the P3 being installed into a 2009 Tacoma using the # ETBC7 for you.
I've also linked several articles on brake controllers and their installation that you may find helpful.
