Trailer Hitch Receiver and Hitch Bike Rack for a 2012 Volkswagen Passat
Question:
I want A hitch mounted bicycle rack for my 2012 Volkswagen Passat. If I select my car, I cannot select hitch mounted racks. Why not? Is the TH9054 suitable?

Hitch mounted bike racks are not routinely tested with specific vehicles, so manufacturers do not offer a fit guide for vehicles. Instead, they are designed to fit specific trailer hitch sizes.
That being said, the Thule DoubleTrack Pro XT, part # TH92BJ is a great choice for a smaller vehicle like the 2012 Volkswagen Passat. Its able to carry bikes up to 35 pounds and at only 32 pounds itself, allows for quite a bit of carrying capacity on a Class I hitch. Additionally, the integrated hitch and bike locks make it much more secure than your average bike rack.
The DoubleTrack is also capable of holding a wide variety of bike frames and wheel types, giving you the best flexibility you can in the Class I racks.
If you don't have a hitch already, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame hitch, part # 24880 . This hitch installs on any of the three engine types for the Passat, and will add an appropriate mounting point. This is a no-drill installation, but does require that the trunk be accessed and that the fascia be trimmed. You'll need a pair of tin snips like part # PT79ZR to make this quick and easy. I've included a link to our trailer hitch installation FAQ to give you some good tips on getting your installation done fast. The directions are a bit vague, so I've included a video of our team installing this hitch onto a 2013 Volkswagen Passat to help you make the most of your install time.
