If your 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 came equipped with a factory 7-way or 4-way, then you would should have the Tekonsha Wire, part # 3020-P. The Tekonsha wire plugs into the back of the brake controller and into the factory brake controller port.
I would recommend testing the wires coming out of the brake controller. You will want to use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to test the wires. The Black wire is 12 volt power and should always have power. The White wire is the ground connection. The red wire is the brake stop light switch and should only have signal when the brake pedal is pressed. The Blue wire is the brake control output, which should also be connected to the blue wire which terminates somewhere along the frame rail, unless you have a factory 7-way.
If your Dodge has a factory 4-flat trailer connector, the Blue wire on the Dodge Ram is already ran, but terminates somewhere along the frame rail. If you have located the terminated Blue wire, you can just run a wire from the 7-way to terminated Blue wire instead of to the brake controller.
I have linked instructions for the Tekonsha Brake Controller with Wiring, part # 90885-3020P. I have also linked an FAQ on installing a brake controller on a Dodge Ram.
