Compatible Bearing Buddy to Fit Axle Hubs with Reliable Oil Caps Installed

Question:

I have a EzLoader 2100 lbs boat trailer, Model 5-EZWB14-182100. It has been equipped with Reliable oil filled caps. One broke off and I would like to replace with Buddy Bearing Protectors. Two questions: 1. How do I remove the broken plastic that remains on the hub? 2. What model of Buddy Bearing should I order from you? I would like stainless.

When trying to remove the broken Reliable oil cap you may need to use a hammer and a long flat head screwdriver. Placing the screwdriver head on the outer edge of the cap, lightly tap the screwdriver to force cap to turn in the desired direction to remove from the hub. Be careful not to put the screwdriver inside hub to try to remove the cap. It could slip and damage the threads on the inside of the hub.

To make sure you will receive the correct Bearing Buddy for your trailer's hubs, a measurement of the ID of the hub opening will be needed.

Typically with the Reliable caps, the hub bore is 2.08 inches. If this is the case, then the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2080T-SS - Threaded - Stainless Steel (Pair), # BB2080T-SS, will be the set you will need for your trailer.

Before installing Bearing Buddy, clean and pack you wheel bearings. I recommend using the LubriMatic Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease, # L54FR.

If you feel that you may need to replace your bearing, then supply use with the bearing and seal numbers and we will be able to find a new set for you to install on your axle.

I have attached an article that will explain how to remove, pack, and install wheel bearings and seals for you to review.
