Anti-Rattle Device for Ball Mount Left in Hitch Receiver of 2016 Ram 1500

Question:

HI. I Ieave my trailer hitch or ball on my truck when Im not towing my trailer. The ball coupler rattles when there is no trailer. I want to eliminate this rattle. Which product would work the best. Im currently using a elastic cord and I want something a little more permanent.

What you need is an anti-rattle device. If your ball mount has a hollow shank I recommend using the Receiver Lock # 63232. It replaces the pin and clip you're currently using and locks the ball mount while preventing the rattle.

If you don't have a hollow shank an option is the Quiet Hitch # RM-061. This clamps around the ball mount and hitch receiver essentially squeezing them together.

I've linked videos of both devices for you. They'll definitely be a better option than the temporary cord you've been using.

Since you leave your ball mount in the receiver all the time another thing you may be interested in the not-so-distant future is a new ball mount. States are beginning to pass laws making it illegal to keep a ball mount in a truck's receiver when you're not towing because of in the case of an accident it can cause more damage to the other vehicle (Picture how someone's radiator might look if they rear end you). A solution is a ball mount that can be stored under your hitch receiver like the B&W Tow and Stow # BWTS10037B. I've linked a video so you can see how it works.

With the Tow & Stow you can reduce the rattle in your hitch using the Silencer Pad # BWTS35020 and then lock the ball mount in place with # BX8858.
