Why Does Draw Tite Hitch for 1999 Honda Odyssey Have Higher Capacity than Curt

Why are the capacities of the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Round Tube Receiver Hitch - 1999 Honda Odyssey Code: 75270 so much greater than those of the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch - 1999 Honda Odyssey Code: C13068? Thanks.

Draw Tite and Curt are two different companies who both designed a Class III hitch for your 1999 Honda Odyssey.

Before getting to concerned about the capacity differences you need to consider that the towing setup of any vehicle is only as strong as the weakest component. So if your Odyssey has a factory capacity that is much lower than either hitch's capacity it doesn't matter which you had installed as the lower vehicle capacity would be the overall capacity.

The design of the # 75270 and # C13068 are pretty similar but also have a few differences. One of them being that the Draw Tite has a much longer mounting bracket surface that touches the vehicle frame.

I attached two pictures. The first one (on the left) is the Draw Tite and you can see how much bigger the bracket is than the Curt on the right.
