Fitting a CarPod Trailer Hitch Cargo Basket to a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Hi, Im interested in the carpod for our 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Im curious if it would work for that vehicle as well as curious if the walls can be removed completely. Thanks!

The CarPod, part # M2205-01-02 is a carrier designed for Class III trailer hitches on most vehicles. It would be a great option for your 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

If you do not already have a Class III trailer hitch, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e63AR. This rack is compatible with Outlander Sports with both LED and non-LED tail lights and installs without drilling. I've included a link to an article with various tips for installing hitches onto a vehicle.

In order to see if the CarPod is a full fit for your vehicle, it will need to clear the bumper. you'll need to measure from the center of your hitch pin hole to the furthest edge of the bumper. If this is shorter than 12 inches, you'll be able to use the full range of features. If it is longer than 12 inches, but shorter than 14 inches, you will only be able to use the CarPod folded down.

The CarPod itself does not allow for its walls to be removed, so it can't substitute as a flat-loading rack. If you're in need of the flat folding configuration more often, I recommend instead the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18151 . This will better suit that application with the same fold-up features.

If you go with the CarPod, you'll need a hitch pin. A basic one is part # PC3 that has no additional features, but I recommend a locking anti-rattle hitch like part # 63232 , a part from Let's Go Aero that installs inside the hitch shank itself and helps secure the shank inside the receiver, reducing the rack's rattle.

Additionally, the CarPod provides integrated locking points for the lid and they require a traditional padlock to use. I recommend part # ML4140LH, a Master Lock padlock that can be keyed alike, doubling down on your security and only requiring you to remember a single key.
