Towing Capacity and Recommended Parts for 2012 Chevy Equinox V6
Question:
Im confused there are different views on your site. One place it indicates tow cap is 3500# and in Q and A it states it has 1500#s? How do know if it has factory package? what to look for on the bill of materials when I use vin and get said BOM Thanks

If your 2012 Equinox has a tow package it will state factory tow package on the bill of materials. According to the owners manual, the 4 cylinder towing capacity is 1500 lbs but your V6 can tow 3500 lbs if your trailer has brakes. Without trailer brakes the max weight is 1000 lbs.
If you don't have the towing equipment, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # e98865. This is a nice and strong hitch that will allow for many ball mount and accessory options.
For your wiring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 56094 for a four way flat for a trailer without brakes. For a trailer with brakes, I recommend adding the wiring for brake controller and 7-way # ETBC7. This will give you the wiring, the trailer connector, and the circuit breakers you need for a fully functional 7-way. Then you just need a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it is incredibly user friendly with the LCD screen and presets.
