Hand Winch Compatible with a Powered Drill For Lifting and Lowering a Gate

Question:

Looking at this winch it brakes ratcheting? for both lifting and lowering without modification correct? I intend to use it for lifting and lowering a gate daily. Would you suggest it for this use? Also I often use a battery powered driver with a 3/4 inch torque head to quickly raise instead of the handle. I noticed this handle connects differently l, would adding a 3/4 nut to continue using impact driver to raise and lower be possible with this winch? Thank you

The Dutton-Lainson Heavy Duty Brake Winch part # DL10808 has a braking mechanism that locks in place when the handle is released. In order to obtain a ratcheting mechanism with this winch you will want to replace the handle with the Brake Winch Ratcheting Replacement part # DL70346. When used in place of the regular handle, it allows the operator to both raise and lower the load without turning the handle a full revolution.

As long as your gate does not exceed 1,200 lbs, this winch will work well for you. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend you use anything but the handles designed to work with this winch. If you are looking for a winch that is compatible with a powered drill, I recommend using the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle part # DL11004 in addition to the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook part # DL24242 as this option will allow you to use a powered drill.

I have attached a link to a list of all our ratcheting handle brake winches for you.
