I would recommend the etrailer Class III Trailer Hitch, item # e98864, for your RAV4. Class III hitches will accept most any accessories out there and are super sturdy for carrying bikes and towing.

Thule has several bike racks that will work in a two inch hitch, see link. I personally like the platform style racks, because they protect the bikes and the rear of the vehicle and offer a very easy to load and secure connection at the rear of the vehicle. The Thule Doubletrack Pro XT, item # TH92BJ, would be an excellent choice.

If you need a ball mount, for towing, the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount, item # AMSC2, is the most popular 2 inch ball mount we carry, and will work great for you. Along with this ball mount you will need a Pin and Clip, item # PC3, and a properly sized hitch ball, item # 19260 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or item # 63845, (2 inch diameter).

Finally, if you will be towing you will need a wiring harness for the trailer lighting. The T-One Wiring Harness, item # 118412, is the correct wiring for the 2006 Toyota Rav 4. I have included a couple of help articles and several videos for addition info.
