Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brakes on a Load Rite Trailer Model UT6512

Question:

Thank you so much! I went ahead and purchased the items you suggested. I'll update you one install is complete. What do you suggest for wiring? I already have a brake control on my vehicle just need wiring for this to car. My trailer does come presided for lights with 5 point straight plug.

Looks like your Load Rite trailer UT6512 has a 3,500 lb axle. Most likely it's a standard 3,500 lb trailer axle but first you have to check to see if the axle has brake mounting flanges. If you can get back to me with whether or not you have brake flanges and the brand of your axle (most likely Lippert or Dexter) I can see which kit we have that may work.

Thanks for the picture! It really helps. From that I can tell you have a Dexter 3,500 lb idler hub with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and a brake mounting flange so we have exactly what you'll need. So for a hub/drum you would want the part # 84546UC3 and then for assemblies that will fit this hub and the flange you'd want the # 23-468-469 for both sides and you'd be set.

For wiring up the assemblies I would recommend going with a 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot. Now you'll need to convert the trailer to a 7-way on the trailer. Easiest way to do that is to use the 7-way and junction box part # 277-000141 that you'd run the brake power wire to as well as the rest of the trailer lighting wires. The ground wire of the assemblies (can be either wire) would get grounded to the trailer frame. Since you have a flat 5-way on your vehicle from there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
