Your pain with the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Control (ITBC) with your 2017 Chevy Silverado 3500 can, in fact, be eased with a Prodigy brake controller. I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195, a very high-quality controller that is our most popular.
There will be some steps for you to take before you can use the Prodigy, however. With the integrated brake controller, you will not be able to use the simple plug and play adapter # 3016. Instead you are going to have to access wiring under the instrument panel on the driver's side. If you take a look at the help article I've linked, it will take you through the process of installing an aftermarket controller in your 2017 Silverado.
