Converting a 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 7-Way to Tow a Trailer with Electric Brakes
Question:
Good afternoon, I have a 2017 Toyota Highlander that came off the lot with a 4 pole flat wiring harness. I have a trailer with a 7 blade hookup. What products are needed to convert the 4 flat to the 7 blade hookup so I am able to use the brakes and lights? Will I need a separate brake controller, and if so, how do I go about the conversion/installation? Any help you can provide is appreciated!

You do need an electric brake controller in your 2017 Toyota Highlander to operate your trailer's brakes. I recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195. It's one of the best controllers on the market with an LCD and 5 storable settings.
To convert the 4-way trailer connector to a 7-way use our # ETBC7 kit. This includes the 7-way connector as well as the wiring that you'll run to the controller for the brake circuit.
I've linked a video that shows the P3 being installed on a 2013 Highlander using the # ETBC7 kit. The process on your 2017 is the same. I've also linked some articles you might find helpful.
