Receiver Hitch, Wiring and Other Necessary Towing Accessories for 2007 Dodge Caliber
Question:
Getting a small rental trailer for a local trip on my 2007 Dodge Caliber. Do I need all of those wires? What is the simplest and cheapest way to hook it on the back of this car? I am a single mom with no clue! Thanks!

In order to tow a trailer, you will need a hitch, a draw bar and pin and clip, a trailer ball and a vehicle wiring harness.
I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # 24769. This receiver fits all Caliber Models EXCEPT for the R/T model. This hitch includes the pin and clip. If you have the R/T model, Curt Manufacturing offers a Class I receiver, part # C11006 that will fit all models except for the SRT-4. The draw bar and pin and clip are also included.
The trailer rental facility should be able to tell you which size ball you will need to tow their trailer. If you need a 2 inch ball, use part # 19258. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19256.
The trailer wiring harness is part # 118428. Installation is fairly straightforward, the connectors plug inline behind the tail light assemblies, and one wire is ran to the positive battery terminal. This wiring is necessary so that the lights on the trailer will work in tandem with those on the vehicle.
I will provide links to the install instructions for both hitches I have mentioned, as well as the instructions for the wiring harness.
